I actually used a zoom lens for all these (smc PENTAX-A 70~210mm 1:4) but my 50mm (the one I used for the first photo in colour) isn't fancy at all. its anything but fancy really, its a 31 year old manual focus manual metering lens. I don't have a photo of my lens but here is an info page on it.

ya know what though, sometimes the older lenses are better, built with better materials. I have an old Minolta SLR (never used it because I can't it to work) but the lenses weigh a ton compared to my D40 lenses

just an aperture ring with the aperture marks f/1.7-22 (something modern lenses don't have). the other markings are distance scales in both feet and meters. these are used as reference points for calculating Depth of Field. (DOF) all this stuff is handled by the camera and and lens automatically on modern SLR and DSLR's. :x

most defiantly built better. my 50 is all metal, with a focus ring that turns smooth as butter. it was hand built in Japan by a skilled pentax technician. not like today.... though you can get brand new pentax lenses with this quality if you shell out big bucks for the new DA Limited series or the slightly older FA limited series. I don't have that kind of money though :(

haha well I can definitely understand why more people are getting into SLR's, they are much less complicated...which is a good thing! :)
